"These were awesome people… People with different ideas about life… people that just knew they would never fit in, but they wanted to have a place to gather and they wanted a community place.” - Eve MacLeish
In this excerpt from our interview with Eve MacLeish for Radical Roots, Eve talks about the early years of the legendary Riverside Cafe (later the New Riverside Cafe). The cafe was a community hub on the West Bank from 1970 to 1997 and a hotbed for local music and radical politics. An article about New Riv founder Rev. Bill Teska's contribution to the University of Minnesota's religious community can be found here.
Look out for two more videos about the New Riv coming to you later today and tomorrow. And help us finish Radical Roots and tell the story of the Twin Cities’ food cooperatives and collectives by donating at Seed & Spark, and following us on Facebook, and Twitter.
