THE CO-OP WARS narrator Peter Coyote is not only the master of documentary narration, he was also a leader of the 1960s counterculture that birthed the natural foods co-ops.
An accomplished actor who has appeared in films such as E.T.: The Extraterrestrial and Erin Brockovich, Coyote is also an Emmy-award winning narrator of documentaries, including eight by the legendary Ken Burns, such as The Vietnam War (2017) and Country Music (2019).
He was also one of the founders of The Diggers, an anarchic San Francisco collective known for their street actions involving free food and performance, which helped inspire the hippies who started the co-ops featured in THE CO-OP WARS. His memoir, Sleeping Where I Fall, is a gripping read that is widely used as a textbook in classes about the counterculture.
THE CO-OP WARS tells the story of the fierce conflict among the young activists who started the nation’s biggest food co-op scene, where disagreements over class, race, and democracy exploded into acrimony and violence in the 1970s.
