THE CO-OP WARS Shows How Co-ops Changed the Way We Eat
There was a time in this country, not that long ago, when you couldn’t get whole wheat bread at the grocery store. When fresh broccoli was a niche food. When organic produce was only available if you knew a hippie farmer. The new documentary THE CO-OP WARS tells the story of how food co-ops began the process that would transform the way Americans eat. Watch the film online now and join us for a Zoom discussion on [date/time].
In the 1970s, the first natural food co-ops came into existance to fulfill an emerging demand for whole, healthy foods that had been driven out of the marketplace by the dominance of processed products. As shown by this clip from THE CO-OP WARS, the first food co-op in Minneapolis found an enthusiastic audience and helped spur an explosion of co-op creation in the following years.
